Either that or maybe they could just get arrested and taken to jail without getting shot in the back. Just an idea.

The arrest was picture perfect up until he decided to fight with the cops. He grabbed one of their tasers and decided to shoot the cops. That’s when he got shot. It all comes down to how the cops were trained to deal with this situation. If the training says shoot to kill, then I don’t know why the cop got arrested.

I saw on a news program a possible “defense” for the reason the officer shot the victim. Some police departments consider use of deadly force appropriate if a person has a taser weapon because it can incapacitate the police officer and then the person could get the officer’s gun and kill the officer.

I really wish there were moderators on this site and would delete these type of posts. It really deters people from trying to discuss issues.

A fair number of the Moderators on this site make those type of posts- - they aren't going to delete when others do so...

The problem is the moderators on here...most of them...do this kind of stuff themselves. So you just learn to live with it.

What I read is that GA considers taser a deadly weapon or something like that.

1. Mr. Brooks drunk behind the wheel.
2. Officers doing their job. They were respectful to him and in my opinion it was a perfect textbook example of an arrest.
3. As Noldor pointed out, things go wrong when Mr. Brooks started assaulting the officers.
4. Mr. Brooks runs, with a weapon, while intoxicated. Yeah, dumbasses, we should just let him run away!
5. The cop didn't fire UNTIL Mr. Brooks turns around and clearly tazes the cop
6. The cops called medical. They asked their supervisor or whoever that black dude was if Mr. Brooks was going to be OK, so apparently they didn't know they had killed him at the time he was taken by the medics. And that supervisor was telling the cop things were going to be OK, kind of a "we have your back" way
7. pooheads burn down the Wendy's...as if the Wendy's

was at fault somehow

Enough is enough. You cannot break the law and walk away.

i don't know how atlanta PD does things, but i know a few people in law enforcement. they are told to only shoot if the other person also has a weapon. if you're going to try to attack police officers that's your funeral, literally.

Those cops should not be behind bars right now.

Oh they said something about the cop supposedly jumping up and down on him and the other one standing on his shoulders and I have searched for that video and all I can find is a very grainy still shot of the cop standing over him. He may have nudged him with his boot or to try to get that taser away or whatever. I wonder if the video of him actually kicking the guy/standing on shoulders will ever surface?

Shot in the back while running away. I suppose that chasing him down or calling for other police in the area didn't occur to Rolfe.

That is not fair to say. I have watched the video several times. The cop did not fire until Mr. Brooks turned around and tazed him with what, according to GA law is a "deadly weapon". Further, I don't believe Mr. Brooks was patted down prior to them attempting to peacefully arrest him. For all they know he could have had a gun and was turning around with that instead of the taser.

I did enjoy this a lot from a legal perspective. Lays out a lot of points for where the cops could have presented this.

Nice breakdown in the video. For anyone to be justified in shooting someone else, it has to be to defend a life.
Even if a burglar breaks in your home and you pull a gun on him, if he sets his weapon down, turns around and walks away, you can't shoot. No one else's life is in danger other than the person you're shooting at.

The cop knew Mr. Brooks was drunk but cooperative up to that point and unarmed because he'd already patted him down. Mr Brooks was 20 yards away and starting to sprint the opposite direction when he was gunned down from behind.
