A stone core cut from a Sarsen stone at Stonehenge 62 years ago has provided the clue to the origin of the giant Neolithic stone monument.

A section of stone was bored out with a view to installing steel reinforcing rods into the monument and a worker retained one of the bored out cores. Aged 90 he returned he artifact to English heritage in the hope it could be replaced in its original location.

This sparked an interest in chemically examining the core and the stones and examining the various sites where the stones were suspected to have come from.

The site WAS "almost certainly" 15 miles away. Archeologists believe that the site at West Woods was selected by by the ancient masons for the sheer size of the extracted stone which weigh up to 30 toms and stand 23 feet high.

Damn, dose that mean that if it was built by a prehistoric high culture of alien overloards, they didn't bring the stones with them?

But how did they lift them on top of each other?

I thought that was the real question.

Well the next part of the puzzle is tracing the route and working out how they moved them.

In ancient times,
Hundreds of years before the dawn of history
Lived a strange race of people, the Druids
No one knows who they were or what they were doing
But their legacy remains
Hewn into the living rock of Stonehenge
