It really makes me angry too, and I only started to feel very angry after I had my own kids and realized that they are so helpless, innocent and require protection. It was hard to make that connection until then. I thought it was normal and everyone experienced it for a very long time.

(Before angry it was a lot of blaming myself for mistakes I made that I thought I deserved the punishment. I got in trouble that day for sitting on a bike in the garage and the bike fell over.)

This is sad. I wonder if parents even realize when they’ve crossed the line into child abuse.

I think my greatest physical pain was getting food poisoning. It felt like someone was punching my stomach for two hours. Then I finally threw up and felt better. So here’s a tip, if you ever get a bad case of food poisoning, try to throw up.

I did have a skateboard accident as a teenager where I broke my arm, and that was really painful, but the food poisoning was even more painful than that.

They must, surely, right?

Not speaking for everyone, but a lot of that sort of behaviour towards kids is learnt. My husband's father was very abusive towards his eldest sons, because that's what he thought he had to do to keep them from erring towards wrong. Now he's very soft with his children and they hate him. Especially the eldest son who he beat the most.
And many years ago, if a religious figure hit kids while teaching them, parents would say it was ok and to respect that teacher. Sometimes it still happens.

That's so awful, sorry you had to go through that, pf

If you count a fracture, then yes.

either one of the 8 lots of pancreatitis i had in the year before they took out my gallbladder.

OR

Shutting my fingertip in a metal security door and breaking it, having to work with a plactic cap on it to protest it and yet kept hitting it on things, I still dont have proper feeling in it and its been over a year now.

petite, I'm so sorry you had to go through that.

That you've come out the other side as an amazing person is so wonderful.

A lot of abusers see themselves as the real victim.

The worst pain I ever felt was a broken finger. I broke the bone almost completely in half. Every part of the experience was awful and excruciating– the break, the injections, setting the bone. The whole experience was long and exhausting, so I did fall asleep after leaving the ER, but my mom said I was crying in my sleep.

This was actually a case of cat scratch fever. Unbeknownst to me Ted Nugent had written my story long ago and destined me to be a gun toting America loving conservative.

Cat scratch fever is when your cat has poo on its claws and scratches you. And it infects you with cat filth.

Actually, I think it's spread through flea bites.

The lymph nodes in my LEGS were so swollen when I had it (I was 6 years old).

I mean, that's how the *cat* gets it, not you.

I’m still basically Ted Nugent and Kid Rock’s lovechild.
