My nephew and his family live in a very rural area. They have one grocery store and a couple dollar stores. All wiped out. They drove an hour to visit before we all get locked down, and to hopefully get some stuff. Brought them to Aldi, where they were about to get an entire shopping cart full of groceries for a fraction of the price the stupid rural grocery stores charge (since they know they have no competition).

aldi saves the day again

I already have tons of lentils, dried beans, rice, frozen vegetables. Today I bought potatoes (on sale 5lb/99cents) garlic, big bag of onions, cheese, to make those staples palatable.

you beat the crowds for the potatoes and garlic for sure!

Got extra ammo for the guns... cause Texas y’all!!!

My husband insisted, on the basis of absolute worst case scenario. And the shelves were almost as empty as the toilet paper shelves.

(PSA, the guns are locked away and we are both knowledgeable on gun safety)

He says he wants to be prepared in case it goes bad and any violence starts. Breaking in and whatnot.

I say doubtful in our area. But if a couple little boxes of ammo makes him feel better, then whatever.

And also, man sized virus!!

I found pasta and beans today!
TP nowhere in sight but that's okay. Liquor store was stocked so I took advantage of that.

EmptyMisty that's funny. Personally am predicting we're more headed toward a police state but we're not buying arms against that yet.
Wishing him calm too.

Sorry to hear, psychotrap . You've probably hit up small drugstores, but we've had the most success there.

May upload a pic of today's acquisitions - we don't think we'll shop again in a while so tried to think of what we'd need to stay somewhat upbeat at home for two more months.

With projected 20% unemployment and an ongoing opioid crisis I'm expecting higher-than-normal crime rates. But I'm looking at buying a security alarm, not extra ammo.

Higher crime rates will help expedite a police state obvi

I put in an order with Omaha Steaks; will be here two weeks from today.

Just fyi, if you're worried about having meat.
