Stupidly a local store had set hours for vulnerable customers AND NHS workers at the same time.

Oh wow, that is really stupid.

I saw a video an off duty nurse took. By the time she got off shift, the shelves were bare.

Our grocery stores have started having designated shopping hours for those in the higher risk category.

Yeah hey are doing that here too. I didn't go that early because I was really aiming for the Pharmacy. Hopefully all the craziness is over and I can just buy fresh stuff as and when I need it.

What did you get Rag_Doll_? They have different packages, right?

Yeah, they do; it was sirloin, pork chops, chicken breasts, brats, stuffed sole, and some apple dessert things.

Not a huge package, but it's something (delicious, even).

I also put in an order with Boudin bread and they offered 2 day shipping (pretty sure that's their standard) and I'll have 4 loaves of delicious sourdough by Thursday.

Is that the first time you ordered from them? I need to go check it out and see if they have an introductory package. The last time I was at the grocery there was no meat.

Omaha Steaks seems to be very expensive for what one gets, but I guess if the local grocery is out of meats, expensive meat is better than nothing...

Someone in my coupon group posted a Schwan introductory offer I need to further look into as well. I have never ordered from them.

We used to get stuff from them when I was a kid. I see the truck in the neighborhood fairly often, but don't know what they currently offer or what their prices are like.

We used to get Southern Foods delivery when all of us were living at home. My parents discontinued it several years ago because they couldn't justify it anymore with just the two of them, so I don't know what they still offer or what the pricing is like.

I was just looking at Omaha Steak Co. and a lot of the meals I'd want are sold out and yes they are as expensive as restaurant meals. But better than having nothing! I usually don't like to freeze meat, don't really have the space or like the taste but for now things are going to have to change.

Omaha Steaks are delicious and I know what I'm getting; same with Boudin bread.

This is my first time ordering from them personally, but we've received gifts from my father-in-law from them a couple of times before and everything was great.

BTW, there doesn't seem to be any shortage on sauerkraut. They keep bags of it by the Polish sausage which was all gone but plenty of sauerkraut to go around! Guess there aren't too many people that like it.

Reuben sandwiches at the Bookworm residence.

They had some pasta, some frozen veggies, plenty of bread, only one or two cases of seltzer, tahini was back in stock. I tried to just double how much of what I usually buy. I’m not drinking powdered milk and need my morning eggs so that’s unavoidable. I mean I could just not drink milk and eat eggs. But peanut butter. But toast and eggs.

When I was growing up, we were taught to avoid sumac because it can give a rash like poison ivy...

That's the white one, brother. Not the red. The red ones with all the benefits.

Actually, I was making kielbasa and kraut in the Crock-Pot and potato casserole as a side. Couldn't get the Hilshire Farms sausage I wanted, though. Had to get the more expensive local brand.

Sounds quite tasty. Probably good to eat all the perishables while electricity and gas are still readily available.

2 things are happening here.

Garbage workers have been collecting excess amounts of spoiled food.

Supermarkets are lifting restrictions on the purchase of many items.

How is that possible? I feel like I'm having so much less spoiled food. I've had to get really creative with meal planning and cooking.

Maybe because you haven't been hoarding food?

People buying more food than they can even fit in their freezers.

I bet a lot of people are going to gain weight because they will be trying to eat up all that food before it spoils and also because they won't be as active out in public and getting their exercise.

people can only leave home for 4 reasons now , to work, to shop for essentials, to exercise, or to go to the doctor..and there can only be two people together unless you live together..

work is still open...people have decided to renovate or declutter while they're staying home, so apparently buying supplies to organise your pantry is considered 'essential' ..

and people have no respect for social distancing...
